Only Metabase admins can create API keys, and the key must be assigned to the Administrators group to read people, groups and memberships.

Find your Metabase URL

Use the address you open Metabase at, for example https://metabase.example.com or https://yourcompany.metabaseapp.com on Metabase Cloud. Leave off any trailing slash and the /api path.

Create an API key

Create a key that belongs to the Administrators group.

Open API keys

In Metabase, click the grid icon in the upper right, select Admin, open the Settings tab, click Authentication in the left menu, then click API keys.

Create the key

Click Create API Key, enter a Key name such as StackOne, select Administrators for the Group field, and click Create.

Copy the key

Copy the key now. It won’t be shown again.

Connect

  • Click Connect.
  • If applicable, the provider will redirect you to a sign-in or authorization page. Complete the provider’s authorization flow.
  • Once authorization is successful, you will see a confirmation popup.
