StackOne must reach your server over HTTPS with a certificate from a public certificate authority. If it is behind a firewall, allow inbound HTTPS from StackOne’s IP addresses. Nextcloud has no read-only role for this API. The app password must belong to an account in the admin group (or the LDAP admin group), and a group administrator or regular account is refused. If your Nextcloud sets allowed_admin_ranges, its documentation says: “all admin actions must originate from IPs within these ranges”. Add the same StackOne addresses there.

Find your Nextcloud URL

The Nextcloud URL is the web address of your Nextcloud server.

  • Copy the address from the browser address bar when you are signed in to Nextcloud, up to but not including /apps/, /index.php/ or /settings/. Keep a folder such as /nextcloud and a port such as :8443 if the address has one.
  • Format: https://{host} or https://{host}/{folder} when Nextcloud is installed in a folder
  • Example: https://cloud.example.com
  • The host name needs a dot. A trailing slash is ignored and the connection always uses HTTPS.
  • Paste it into the Nextcloud URL field in StackOne Hub.

Create an app password

An app password is a device-specific password that carries the permissions of the account that creates it. Create it from an account in the admin group.

1

Sign in to Nextcloud

Sign in to your Nextcloud instance as an account in the admin group.

  • Select your avatar, then Personal settings.
  • Under Personal, select Security, not the Security page under Administration. The page is also at {Nextcloud URL}/index.php/settings/user/security.
2

Create the app password

In Devices & sessions, enter a name in App name and select Create new app password.

  • App name: StackOne Integration
  • When Nextcloud asks you to confirm, enter your password and select Confirm.
  • If the account uses two-factor authentication, the app password still works. Nextcloud refuses the main password from clients on such accounts.
3

Copy the app password

In the New app password dialog, copy the Password and store it securely for use later.

  • Nextcloud says: “For security reasons this password will only be shown once.”
  • Paste it into the App Password field in StackOne Hub.
  • Copy the Login from the same dialog and paste it into the Admin User Name field in StackOne Hub.

Find your Admin User Name

The Admin User Name is the Login shown in the New app password dialog.

  • It must match the name used to sign in when the app password was created. An app password created after signing in with an email address works only with that email address.
  • Example: admin
  • Paste it into the Admin User Name field in StackOne Hub.

Revoke or rotate the app password

The app password works until you revoke it. A revoked password stops the connection.

  • To revoke it, open Personal settings > Security. In Devices & sessions, open the menu beside StackOne Integration, select Revoke and confirm.
  • To rotate it, create a new app password, paste it into the App Password field in StackOne Hub, then revoke the old one.
  • If the account’s password changes in an external user backend, the app password stops working until the account signs in to Nextcloud with its main password again.
  • Nextcloud deletes an app password that has not been used for a year.

Check your Nextcloud version

Two-factor status for each user needs Nextcloud 31 or later. On older servers it stays empty.
