# Connect Dext with API Key – StackOne Hub

> Link a Dext account in the StackOne Hub using API Key. End-user guide to authorize the integration and start using Dext actions.

> The Data Health section of Practice settings is only available to practices that have purchased the Data Health & Insights add-on (Practice Essentials or Practice Advanced plan). By default, only Practice Admins can access Practice settings.

## Generating an API token

Dext authenticates Data Health & Insights API requests with an API token. Tokens are personal: a token returns only the clients its creator can access, so create it from a **Practice Admin** account to cover every client.

**1. Sign in to Dext**

Sign in to your [Dext practice account](https://app.dext.com/sign/in).

  <li>Select **Practice settings** in the bottom-left navigation.</li>
</ul>

**2. Open the API tokens page**

In **Practice settings**, select **Data Health** in the left navigation, then select **API tokens**.

**3. Create and copy a token**

Enter a descriptive name in the **Token Name** field (for example, `StackOne`) and select **Create**. Copy the token value and paste it into the **API Token** field in StackOne Hub.

  <li>The token value is shown once and cannot be retrieved later, so copy it before you close the modal.</li>
  <li>Deleting the token in **API tokens** immediately rejects it for all API requests.</li>
</ul>

## Linking the Account from the Hub

**1. Navigate to the Hub**

Use one of the three [Linking Account Methods](https://docs.stackone.com/connect/managing-connectors/linking-accounts.md) to access the Hub.

**2. Fill out the fields**

Fill out the following fields using details from your provider:

  <li>**API Token**</li>
</ul>

**3. Connect**

<ul>
  <li>Click **Connect**</li>
  <li>If applicable, the provider will redirect you to a sign-in or authorization page. Complete the provider's authorization flow.</li>
  <li>Once authorization is successful, you will see a confirmation popup</li>
</ul>

If the account linking is successful, you will see the newly linked account on your [Accounts](https://app.stackone.com/accounts) page.
